Cannock Chase welcomes announcement as a venue for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Cannock Chase Council is delighted by today’s announcement that the Sport and Venue Programme for the Birmingham 2022 Games is confirmed, with Cannock Chase named as the venue for the mountain biking event.

Over 11 days, 17 different sports will take place from 17 July – 7 August across Birmingham and the West Midlands with athletes from 71 nations and countries arriving for the Games and millions will be tuning in to watch this momentous sporting event.

Empty Homes – What a Waste

Cannock Chase Council is participating in the National Empty Homes Week to raise awareness of the issues empty homes can cause and to encourage empty home owners to bring their properties back into beneficial use.

Hednesford Park has scooped a Britain in Bloom award for the second year running in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category.

On 20 September representatives from Hednesford Park were delighted to pick up a gold award from The Heart of England, Britain in Bloom with the Royal Horticultural Society's 'GOLD 2018 It's Your Neighbourhood Award' at the ceremony in Acocks Green.

Council backs ‘bin it your way’ campaign to tackle chewing gum litter

Cannock Chase Council is supporting the Chewing Gum Action Campaign this month, an annual campaign to tackle chewing gum litter across the District.

The annual campaign, which is being run during October across the country aims to educate people to think twice before dropping their chewing gum on the street.

The Chewing Gum Action Group is supported by Keep Britain Tidy, who want to see chewing gum littering substantially reduced by 2020 and all but eradicated by 2030.

Cabinet approves CCTV investment in the District

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet approved at its meeting last night to invest £55k into the Districts CCTV.

There are 91 cameras cross the District which were installed in 1998, and following a full audit review 26 have been identified as in need of essential replacement.

Across the District CCTV cameras record images continuously 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

CCTV is a deterrent to crime and with systems such as the Council’s, CCTV footage is frequently utilized by the police and can result it the perpetrators of crime being brought to justice.

Drone helps market new `state of art` warehouse

One of the country’s most accessible distribution sites has turned to drone technology to help market a `state of the art` highly-sustainable warehouse which is seeking its first occupiers.

CONNEQT Alpha is a 153,800 sq ft unit with 16 loading doors on the Kingswood Lakeside Business Park in Cannock, beside the M6 toll motorway. Owned by Bridges Fund Management and Opus Land, it was completed last month and is now available for occupation.

Celebration as construction starts on £160m Designer Outlet Cannock

A ground-breaking ceremony at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cannock site was held last week to mark the start of construction for the new £160m shopping and leisure destination.

McArthurGlen, the leading owner, developer and manager of designer outlets in Europe’s, began the site preparation and earth works in July this year, with the selected contractor, Bowmer & Kirkland.

Phase one of the development, which will include 80 stores, restaurants and a children’s playground will open in 2020 and will see the creation of over 1,000 retail jobs.
