Volunteering and Heritage Trail feature in new funding commitment for Commonwealth Games

Cabinet members at Cannock Chase Council plan to allocate funding towards the Commonwealth Games’ mountain biking event taking place at Cannock Chase Forest next summer.

This follows the allocation of £50,000 last year towards the new blue graded mountain bike trail currently under construction by Forestry England at Birches Valley that will form part of the Games’ course.

At its meeting this Thursday (10 June), the Cabinet is looking to allocate £50,000 of funding made available in September 2020.

End of coal power sparks new horizons for Rugeley (from ENGIE)

The town of Rugeley has bid farewell to its four, 117m high concrete cooling towers that have dominated the skyline for decades, after a controlled collapse demolition event on Sunday 6 June. Members of the community watched the livestreamed event to remove the last major component of Rugeley B Power Station following the plant’s closure in 2016.

Key appointments made at Cannock Chase Council’s Annual Meeting

Members of Cannock Chase Council have made appointments to key roles at their Annual Council Meeting held last night (19 May). They follow the recent District Council Elections on 6 May.

Councillors have also agreed on a proposal to share the chief executive role with neighbouring Stafford Borough Council.

On behalf of Cannock Chase Council and residents of the District, it is with great sadness with which we have received the news of the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh today.

Our condolences go out to The Queen and the Royal Family and our thoughts are with them during this time.

The Duke of Edinburgh has served our country with both distinction and honour throughout his life. The Council’s flag is being flown at half-mast until the day after the funeral has taken place.

New health improvement programme - Cannock Chase Can launching this summer

Cannock Chase Can will launch across the District this summer to help people improve their lives by making healthy lifestyle choices.

The Council is working closely with the Community Wellbeing team at Inspiring healthy lifestyles (IHL) and other partners to launch this exciting new programme which will focus local efforts on supporting the Government’s Child Obesity Action Plan. It will help address poor health and obesity by changing behaviour and attitudes towards better lifestyle options.

Cultural Services in Cannock Chase Awarded Cultural Recovery ‘Lifeline’

Cultural Services in Cannock Chase have been given a financial ‘lifeline’ from the second round of the £1.57 billion Government’s Culture Recovery Fund. Inspiring healthy lifestyles, which manages the Prince of Wales Theatre, Museum of Cannock Chase and Arts Outreach service, has been awarded £174,930 of funding to support reopening and recovery.  Inspiring healthy lifestyles is among more than 2,700 recipients to benefit from this latest round of awards.
