Cannock Chase Council is celebrating the early completion of its first four-year parks improvement programme, which has been delivered a year ahead of schedule.

In just three years, the Council has invested over £1.54 million to improve and enhance seven local parks and play areas, significantly boosting recreational opportunities for children, young people, and families across the district.

As part of the programme, four brand-new play areas have been installed at:
•    Wellington Drive
•    Barnard Way
•    Laburnum Avenue
•    Flaxley Road

Further exciting additions include a ‘Learn to Ride’ cycling arena and a wheeled sports area at the already popular Cannock Stadium, providing engaging, active spaces for all ages to enjoy.

The following phase of improvements, covering the next four-year cycle, is set to begin shortly, subject to funding requirements. Parks scheduled for upgrades include:

•    Cannock Park
•    Heath Hayes Park
•    Union Street Play Area, Bridgtown
•    Chester Road Play Area, Cannock Wood
•    Oxford Green Play Area
•    Norton Canes Community Centre Play Area
•    Rugeley Skate Park
•    Winstanley Play Area, Rugeley.

Councillor John Preece, Portfolio Leader for Parks, Culture and Heritage and Deputy Leader said:  "We are incredibly proud to have delivered this programme a full year early. Investing in parks and play areas is about much more than just equipment – it’s about creating safe, welcoming spaces where children can stay active, families can spend quality time together, and communities can connect. These improvements are an investment in the health and wellbeing of our residents, and we’re committed to continuing this important work across the district."

These upcoming improvements reinforce the Council’s long-term commitment to enhancing green spaces and ensuring accessible, high-quality recreational facilities are available to all residents.
