Cannock Chase Council, working in partnership with Cannock Police, have issued 25 Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) warnings to car owners across Staffordshire and the West Midlands, following an illegal car cruise meeting held in Cannock last weekend.

Using footage captured on CCTV and driver details provided by Cannock Police, the Council have served the warnings for breach of clause 6B of the Order which prohibits any person from engaging, assisting or causing anti-social behaviour connected to the use of a mechanically propelled vehicle.

Any further breaches of the Order will result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100, with the maximum penalty on conviction for an offence under this legislation being a fine of up to £1,000.

Councillor David Williams, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Leader for Community Wellbeing, said: “Illegal car cruises cause disruption, danger, and distress for local residents. The Council is committed to working closely with the police to take firm action against those who choose to ignore the law. These warnings send a clear message — antisocial vehicle use will not be tolerated in Cannock Chase.”

Chief Inspector Alan Lyford, Commander for Cannock Local Policing Team, said “This is another example of the partnership work happening to tackle the issues affecting local people and businesses in Cannock.

“Vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and grouped car cruising can have a profound impact on the local community and puts other road users at risk of harm.

“We’re determined to keep working closely with the local authority to address these concerns and use all the powers at our disposal to tackle anti-social behaviour and vehicle-related crime.”
