Residents across Cannock Chase can now access tailored one-to-one advice and support with their benefits through a dedicated service delivered by Citizens Advice Staffordshire South West, thanks to funding by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
The service is designed to help individuals and households understand their entitlements, make eligible claims, and receive support with appeal tribunals where needed. As many residents may not be aware of the additional support available through Universal Credit or other benefits.
Councillor Maureen Freeman, Portfolio Leader for Regeneration and High Streets said:
"We know that many local people are not receiving the full support they are entitled to. The funding for this new service will make a real difference by giving residents clear guidance, practical help with claims, and reassurance during difficult times."
Councillor David Williams, Portfolio Leader for Community Wellbeing added: "Financial worries can have a huge impact on peopleโs mental health and overall wellbeing. By helping residents access the support they are entitled to, we hope to ease some of that pressure and give people greater peace of mind."
Lisa Hitchcock, Head of Service for Citizens Advice Staffordshire South West said โThe UKSPF funding has been essential, allowing Citizens Advice Staffordshire South West to meet increased need within Cannock Chase. The funding has not just delivered information / advice but has ensured vulnerable clients can access the right support, unlock benefits, and secure a footing against the tide of financial difficulty.โ
This programme aims to reach those most vulnerable, including people out of work, those in low-paid employment, residents living with health conditions, young people aged 18 and over (or in some cases 16โ17), and pensioners.
Recent research has highlighted that many people across the country are missing out on their full entitlements, leaving them more vulnerable to rising living costs. This service hopes to close that gap for Cannock Chase residents.
This service will run until 31 March 2026.
