Representatives from Cannock Chase Council, Cannock Police, and domestic abuse charity New Era are joining forces to mark White Ribbon Day, a national campaign aimed at ending violence against women and girls.
White Ribbon Day takes place on Tuesday 25 November, encouraging men and boys to become allies in challenging and preventing all forms of violence and abuse.
To support this year’s campaign, representatives from Cannock Chase Council, Cannock Police, and New Era will be at Cannock College on Thursday 27 November, between 10am and 12pm, to engage with male students about the importance of standing up against violence and promoting respect and equality.
There will be giveaways from White Ribbon UK, the leading charity in England and Wales, working with men and boys to end violence against women and girls.
As part of this year’s campaign, men are being encouraged to make the White Ribbon Promise — to never use, excuse, or remain silent. Every time sexism is ignored, it sends the message that this behaviour is acceptable. What might seem like harmless comments or jokes can reinforce attitudes that lead to violence and abuse.
Councillor David Williams, Portfolio Leader for Community Wellbeing, said: “White Ribbon Day is an important reminder that we all have a role to play in ending violence against women and girls. By raising awareness and encouraging open conversations — particularly among young men — we can challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours before they escalate. Everyone deserves to live without fear, and together we can make our community a safer, more respectful place for all.”
Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent, Victoria Downing, said: “We are pleased to be supporting partners across the community in delivering these sessions aimed at preventing violence in all its forms, especially encouraging everyone to stand up against abuse.
“Officers work tirelessly all year round to tackle this type of crime and it’s so important we continue to do all we can to raise awareness, this White Ribbon Day, of violence against women and girls as part of our efforts to do everything possible to stop it.”
