Volunteers join the mass litter clean up across Cannock Chase

Great British Spring Clean volunteers

Published: Monday, 16th March 2026

To mark the launch of the Great British Spring Clean 2026, enthusiastic volunteers from Littleton Green Community School and South Staffordshire College Support to Learn rolled up their sleeves last week to help tidy Ravenhill Park in Brereton, Rugeley.

The national campaign, led by Keep Britain Tidy and running from 13 to 29 March, encourages people across the district to show pride in their local area by taking part in a mass litter picking effort. Cannock Chase Council is calling on residents to join in by pledging to collect one bag of litter — or more — as part of this year’s event.

Residents wishing to get involved can borrow litter picking equipment from the Council and collected bags will be picked up by our teams. To arrange equipment or collection, contact Street Cleansing on 01543 462621 or email streetcleansing@cannockchasedc.gov.uk.

Upcoming Community Litter Picks
•    Elmore Park – Tuesday 17 March, 10am
•    Cannock Park – Friday 27 March, 10am
•    Castle Ring – Friday 27 March, 1.30pm
•    Cannock Stadium Park – Every Saturday at 10.30am with The Friends of Cannock Stadium Park

Last year’s campaign saw an overwhelmingly positive response from volunteers:
•    95% felt they had made a difference to their local area
•    88% felt part of a national movement tackling litter

Councillor Tony Johnson, Portfolio Leader for Parks, Culture and Heritage said: “The Great British Spring Clean is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when our community comes together. Every bag of litter picked makes a visible, positive impact on our neighbourhoods.

“I am incredibly proud of the volunteers, schools and community groups who continue to show such dedication to keeping Cannock Chase clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.”

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “We are so grateful for the amazing support from Cannock Chase Council.

“The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic way for councils to support residents to really show their pride in where they live, and connect with like-minded people, while taking serious and immediate action to protect the environment on their doorstep.

“We are humbled to see our army of Litter Heroes volunteers carrying out these acts of kindness to make the planet a cleaner, safer place for our future generations.”
