Cannock Chase Council is marking Insect Week (22–28 June) with a series of fun, family friendly activities across local parks and nature reserves, encouraging residents to get outdoors and discover the fascinating world of insects.

Insect Week is a national celebration designed to inspire people of all ages to learn about insects and understand the vital role they play in supporting healthy ecosystems.

The Council is promoting Insect Week through its Cannock Chase Can App, which now features a special Insect Week Story Walk in four parks: Cannock Park, Hednesford Park, Elmore Park and Ravenhill Park.

Each Story Walk includes 10 hidden QR codes for families to find. Scanning each code unlocks insect facts, mini activities and challenges designed to spark curiosity and help children learn more about the tiny creatures that keep our environment thriving.

Everyone who completes the trail can claim a FREE activity book to continue the fun at home. The Story Walks will remain live until 27 July, giving residents plenty of time to take part.

The Council is also promoting Insect Week across its wider parks and nature reserves, encouraging people to explore, spot wildlife and enjoy the outdoors throughout the summer.

Councillor John Parkes, Portfolio Leader for Operational Services and Parks, said: “Insect Week is a fantastic opportunity for families to get outside, explore our beautiful parks and learn more about the insects that play such an important part in our environment. We’re delighted to support this national campaign and to offer Story Walks that make learning active, fun and accessible for everyone.”
