Freedom of Entry

On Saturday 29 September, Cannock Chase Council will grant the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) Cannock Chase Branch, with the Freedom on Entry to the District, to mark the centenary of the RAF in April 2018.

A parade formation will take place at 10:30am at the top of Market Street in Hednesford, next to the clock tower, followed by a ceremony at 11am, where the Chairman Councillor Paul Witton will present RAFA with the freedom scroll.  The parade will then march down Market Street to Hednesford Park, with a military band.

Freedom of Entry traditionally grants military organisations the freedom to march through the streets of the District, with colours flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed.  This is the most honourable distinction that a District Council can bestow.

Councillor George Adamson, Leader of the Council said “This year marks the centenary of the formation of the RAF as the world’s first military air formation, which was independent of the army control.

Cannock Chase District has a long history with the Royal Air Forces Association and I hope residents will join us to watch them parade through Hednesford.”
