Cannock Chase welcomes announcement as a venue for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Cannock Chase Council is delighted by today’s announcement that the Sport and Venue Programme for the Birmingham 2022 Games is confirmed, with Cannock Chase named as the venue for the mountain biking event.

Over 11 days, 17 different sports will take place from 17 July – 7 August across Birmingham and the West Midlands with athletes from 71 nations and countries arriving for the Games and millions will be tuning in to watch this momentous sporting event.

Councillor George Adamson, Leader of Cannock Chase Council said “I am extremely proud that Cannock Chase will be a venue for mountain biking for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.  This will be a chance for us to showcase Cannock Chase, an area of outstanding natural beauty, to the world.  It will put Cannock Chase on the map and bring many economic benefits to the District.”

Tony McGovern, Managing Director for Cannock Chase Council said “I am thrilled that the 2022 Commonwealth Games will be coming to Cannock Chase.  This is the largest sporting and cultural event to come to the region and we are delighted to be part of it.  I hope this will not only put the District on the map but also bring great economic benefits to local businesses.”
