Cannock’s newest park has been awarded Gold Accreditation under the Plan Inclusive Play Areas (PiPA) scheme, recognising its excellence in inclusive and accessible play provision for children and families across the community.

The Gold PiPA Accreditation is the highest level of recognition awarded under the PiPA framework, which assesses play spaces against criteria including accessibility, inclusive design, and high-quality play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities.

This significant award highlights the commitment of Cannock Chase Council to provide play facilities that are welcoming, engaging and accessible to everyone, including children with additional needs and mobility challenges. The accredited play area now stands as an example of best-in-class design that encourages active, imaginative and social play for every member of the community.

Councillor Garry Samuels, Portfolio Leader for Parks, Culture and Heritage said: “We are delighted that our new play area has achieved Gold PiPA Accreditation. This achievement reflects our dedication to creating high-quality, inclusive spaces where children and families can play, learn and grow together. We want all young people in Cannock to have access to play environments that inspire confidence and support wellbeing.”

The park was developed with extensive community input, ensuring that local families’ voices helped shape the final layout and equipment choices. Features such as accessible surfacing, inclusive swing bays, sensory play equipment and wide pathways contributed to the park’s success in meeting the rigorous standards required for Gold PiPA status.

The Council hopes this accolade will encourage continued use of the space and serve as a platform for future inclusive play initiatives across the district.
