Cannock Chase Council is offering discounted business rates on empty retail units in Rugeley, Hednesford and Cannock.

The Town Centre Discretionary Business Rate Relief aims to support the town centres of Cannock, Hednesford and Rugeley by encouraging the re-occupation of vacant premises by new or expanding businesses.

The Council developed and adopted the discretionary rate relief policy in accordance with the Localism Act 2011 and subject to approval by the Council and the satisfaction of the State Aid Rules, discretionary rate relief may be available provided that applicants can demonstrate benefit to Council tax payers of the District.

Councillor Gordon Alcott, Deputy Leader and Town Centre Regeneration Portfolio Leader said “The Council wants to do everything it can to bring empty shops and business premises in Cannock, Hednesford and Rugeley back into use and to encourage businesses to take them on.

“A business that meets the essential criteria will receive 100% discount on their business rates for either a  12 month or 24 month period, or a maximum £10,000 contribution towards the business rates, whichever is lower.  This is a great opportunity for new or expanding businesses.”
