Last Friday a joint operation was carried out between the Council’s Licensing & Environmental Health Teams, the Police and the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
The operation included visiting 22 licensed premises, unannounced in Rugeley, Cannock and Hednesford town centres and surrounding areas to check that these businesses were complying with the COVID-19 guidance on social distancing and test and trace etc.
Whilst most premises were compliant, the operation highlighted a few issues in the District, including the occupancy capacity of some premises, tables and chairs too close, and issues with queuing, standing at bars etc. These businesses have received a warning letter and will continue to be monitored.
Councillor Christine Martin, Portfolio Leader for Health and Wellbeing said “It is recognised that licensed premises can be the hub of outbreaks of COVID-19, so it is important that these businesses follow the guidance to avoid a local outbreak and subsequent local lockdown.
“I am pleased that the majority of the pubs and clubs in the District are doing their best to keep customers and their employees safe. The Council will continue to work with partners to make sure that all licensed premises are complying with Government guidance and we will take action where we see venues not adhering to the guidelines and putting customers at risk.”
