Around 160 tradespeople and local suppliers have attended a Meet the Buyer event involving Bowmer & Kirkland, the main construction contractors responsible for building the new McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cannock due to open in 2020.
The event, held today, was organised by Cannock Chase Council as part of its ongoing role to maximize the benefits the Outlet can offer to the local economy.
Nearly 35 different trade requirements have been identified by Bowmer & Kirkland and the hope is to match these opportunities to as many local suppliers as possible.
Representatives supplying a range of trades including plumbing, decorating, joinery, ceramic tiling; fencing, gates and barriers; soft flooring, blinds, mirrors, scaffolding, interior decoration and even equipment for an adjacent nature reserve, were among the many local businesses to attend the event held in the Council’s Civic Centre.
Commenting on the success of the event, Councillor Gordon Alcott, Deputy Leader and Economic Development and Planning Portfolio Leader at Cannock Chase Council said:
“The support of the contractor in helping to organise and host the Meet the Buyer event is appreciated. It is the latest initiative of many planned between the Council, the contractors and developers as we gear up to the designer outlet being built and successfully trading.
“The Employment and Skills Plan for the Outlet outlines the responsibility of contractors to engage with local suppliers and sub-contractors.”
Bowmer & Kirkland recently attended the Cannock Jobs Fair where they spoke directly with local residents about forthcoming recruitment and training opportunities.
