Following from the Leader’s announcement at the Council meeting on 25 November, we are pleased to announce that parking charges have been suspended in all Council owned car parks across the District on the three Saturday’s leading up to Christmas
In a bid to boost town centre trade, encourage residents to support our town centres and shop local, it will be free to park in all Council owned car parks in the District on Saturday 5 December, Saturday 12 December and Saturday 19 December.
As the national lockdown restrictions end on 2 December and we enter tier 3 – very high alert, all non-essential retail in the District can re-open.
Banners are being displayed in Cannock Town Centre, which have been produced by the Cannock Town Centre Partnership as part of the town centre regeneration, which will remind shoppers that we are open for business and a reminder to maintain social distancing whilst shopping in the town centre.
Councillor George Adamson, Leader of the Council said “In my Leaders Speech to Council in February this year I announced that this administration would suspend car parking charges in all Council car parks for the two Saturday’s before Christmas (12 and 19 December). Given the second national lockdown is due to end on 2 December I am pleased to announce that this offer of free car parking in all our car parks will be extended to include Saturday the 5 December also.
“Offering free car parking on all of the Saturday’s leading up to Christmas will hopefully encourage our residents to return safely to our town centres and high streets and support our local businesses who have suffered financially through this dreadful pandemic.
“However, we must remember that although the national lockdown ends on 2 December, Cannock Chase will move into tier 3 and while none essential shops can re-open, the virus is still prevalent and will must ensure that we follow the Government guidance of hands, face and space. “
