Your vote matters

On Thursday 2 May 2019 voters in Cannock Chase will go to the polls to elect Councillors to all 15 of its electoral wards.  Where contested, Town Council and Parish Council elections will also take place on the same day.

Tony McGovern, Electoral Registration Officer / Returning Officer for Cannock Chase, said “Only people who are registered to vote can take part in May’s elections.  The majority of eligible people are already on the register, but those who aren’t won’t be able to have their say on polling day.

“Registering is easy and you can apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote in just a few minutes. All you will need your date of birth and national insurance number.

"The deadline to register to vote is Friday 12 April so you’ve still got time, but please don’t leave it until the last minute as it takes a few days for applications to be processed.  For example, if something has been missed off the application, we may need to come back to you and this could lead to the deadline being missed and your name not being added to the register in time.  Please encourage your family and friends to do the same.”

Those who would prefer to apply using a paper form can still do so.  The form can be downloaded from the registration site or alternatively be requested from the Council’s Electoral Services team.  Contact Electoral Services on 01543 464754 and return it before the 12 April deadline.
