Museum of Cannock Chase will re-open its’ doors Thursday 27 August.

Inspiring healthy lifestyles who manage the Museum of Cannock Chase on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council have announced the museum, which plays an important part in historical and cultural offering of the region, will re-open its doors after it forced to close its’ doors shortly before lockdown in March.

The re-opening will include The Toy Gallery, Domestic Galleries and Mining Gallery with some interactive features remaining closed for now including the toy room.

The coffee shop will be operating outdoors for now with orders being taken outside and plenty of space for picnics.

New measures have been put in place in order to provide adequate social distancing to keep both staff and visitors safe.

Signage will be placed on the site to guide people around a new one-way system along with hand sanitiser stations and regular cleaning across the museum.

Chris Derbyshire, Deputy Managing Director at Inspiring healthy lifestyles, said: “We are delighted to be able to open the doors of the museum again. We know the value the museum has in the community and thank our visitors for their patience while we ensured all safety measures were in place.”

Councillor Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport, said: “Museum of Cannock Chase not only serves its place in telling the story of the industrial and military history of Cannock Chase, it celebrates local citizens and champions its beautiful natural surroundings and provides a hub of community activity.

“I am excited to see people welcomed back to the museum and ask that people follow the measures that have put in place to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.”

Admission will remain free and activity packs will be available for purchase which feature merchandise and self-guided activities for the museums’ outdoor space. There will be new opening times of 11am – 4pm Thursday to Saturday with last admission at 3:30pm which will be reviewed in the coming weeks.

Booking is not necessary, with the exception of large groups, but there may be a short wait to enter at building in busier times.

As per government guidelines, face coverings are to be worn inside the museum building, except for those who are exempt and children under the age of 11.
