Eligible businesses who continue to be affected by Government restrictions around Covid-19 are being invited to apply for an Additional Restrictions Grant from Cannock Chase Council.

Grants of up to £1,500 per fortnight can be claimed from a pot of nearly £2m, which is available to support businesses following the end of the national lockdown on 2 December. It is aimed at businesses that, while not required to close, are finding trading very difficult due to the effects of the pandemic. This will include businesses who do not currently pay business rates.

Grants continue to be available to businesses that are not allowed to trade under the tier system.

Up until last Friday, Cannock Chase Council had paid out nearly £670,000 to 454 businesses who were forced to close during the recent national lockdown. This was to compensate for lost income over the four-week lockdown period and included non-essential retail, leisure, sports facilities and the hospitality sector.

The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Planning, Councillor Tony Johnson, said: “With the recent lockdown and being in Tier 3, we know that businesses are facing a lot of pressures at the moment and so this additional support we are able to give is very welcome.

“The better news is that some employers are creating jobs so our Economic Development team will also be consulting with local employers about any training needs they may have for new recruits, as well as advising and helping new start-up businesses”.
