Families and young people are invited to explore the beauty of Cannock Chase and become Guardians themselves, with the launch of a brand-new interactive Story Walk Challenge taking place across Cannock Park, Hednesford Park, Elmore Park and Ravenhill Park.
The challenge forms part of the wider Cannock Chase Can initiative, which supports residents to improve their health and wellbeing through fun, community-based activities.
The project, called Take the Lead: Guardians of Cannock Chase, was developed by The Friends of Hednesford Park in partnership with Vysions Youth Service and three local scout groups, with funding from Cannock Chase National Landscape.
During the summer holidays, local artist Clair Harris worked with young people from Vysions to create imaginative artwork and costume designs inspired by the role of a Guardian — someone who helps protect the wildlife, landscape and heritage of Cannock Chase.
The new self-led challenge invites participants to follow a trail through the parks, discovering the story of the Guardians and scanning 10 hidden QR codes along the way. Those who complete the trail can collect a free Guardians of Cannock Chase activity booklet as a reward.
Councillor Lisa Wilson, Portfolio Leader for Parks, Culture and Heritage at Cannock Chase Council, said: “This creative project is a fantastic way to help children and families connect with our local parks and green spaces. It encourages people to enjoy the outdoors, learn about their importance, and feel proud to protect them for future generations — all while supporting their wellbeing through the Cannock Chase Can programme.”
Clair Harris, Activity Leader for Vysions Youth Service, added: “The young people loved exploring Cannock Chase and bringing the idea of Guardians to life through art. This project shows how creativity and nature can inspire everyone to care about their environment.”
The Guardians of Cannock Chase Story Walk Challenge is now live and free for everyone to enjoy in Cannock, Hednesford, Elmore and Ravenhill parks.
