Twelve tips to a safer Christmas

The Chase Community Safety Partnership is helping residents stay safe again this Christmas with the relaunch of its campaign ’Twelve days to a safer Christmas’.

The festive season can be a very busy time during which it’s easy to take your eye off the ball when it comes to crime prevention. The campaign will run from 13 December until 24 December and will remind people how to keep safe and within the law during the lead up to the Christmas.

The Council’s Partnerships Team will be delivering a series of crime prevention messages and useful tips through the use of videos, TikTok, social media and online adverts. A different theme will be promoted on each day which will highlight community safety priorities over the festive season. The messages provided by local organisations, will be short and informative and include advice on cyber-crime, fire safety, counterfeit goods, responsible drinking, personal wellbeing and many more.

Councillor Bryan Jones, Portfolio Leader for Neighbourhood Safety & Partnerships said: “The aim of our campaign is not to try and spoil anyone’s enjoyment, but to encourage the public to be more aware of crime prevention by highlighting the types of incidents that are common at this time of year.

“The festive season is normally a chance for us to come together and spend time and celebrate with our loved ones, however due to Covid things maybe different again this year. Please follow the current COVID-19 restrictions in place to ensure we all keep safe and well during this festive period.

“As a Partnership, we are urging everyone to have a fun but safe Christmas”.

Chief Inspector Victoria Downing, Neighbourhood Policing Team Commander for Cannock and Rugeley, said: “I would encourage residents to take a look at some of the guidance provided by Cannock District Council and the advice available on our force website on how best to protect yourself and your loved ones from crime this Christmas.

“This includes tips on how to best secure your home, property, vehicles and how to stay safe while experiencing the all that our day and night-time economies have to offer.

“As part of this focus, we will have more high visibility patrols in busy areas over the festive period.

“These will take place throughout the day and during the night to help people visiting our day and night-time economies to feel safe while they’re out-and-about and reassure our communities that we are there for them.

“We know it has been a challenging 18 months for all of us, so we will be doing all we can to help you stay safe and protected this Christmas.”
