Independent experts have ruled out a bid by a local group to run the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock.

An evaluation report into the business plan put forward by Cannock Chase Theatre Trust said it did not provide the “level of financial assurance, operational planning, or delivery capability required for a sustainable transfer.”

Leader of the Council, Tony Johnson, said he appreciated how much work and enthusiasm the Trust had put in to their proposal and wanted them to succeed with a viable plan so was disappointed to hear that their bid should not be taken further.

The report below is expected to be discussed by Councillors next month.

Consultation

A consultation on changes to some of our cultural and heritage services ran from late November 2024 until early January 2025. We appreciate all those who took the time to share their views.

Like many councils across the country, we continue to face rising costs and growing demand for services. Despite years of careful financial management and savings, the council faced a budget shortfall of £1.3 million for 2025/26.

We have worked with Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL) since 2012 to deliver leisure, heritage, and culture services. To help determine the best way forward, we commissioned an independent review of these services and surveyed the condition of the buildings managed by IHL.
