Education and Campaigns

The Council is committed to helping residents get the most from their waste and recycling services. Throughout the year, we deliver a range of education programmes, campaigns and promotional activities to raise awareness of the services we provide, communicate important service information, and encourage residents to reduce waste, recycle more and dispose of items responsibly.

We work closely with schools, community groups, local organisations and partners to engage people of all ages, helping children and young people understand the importance of waste reduction, recycling and protecting the environment for future generations.

Binworld

One of our most successful education programmes is Binworld, an interactive theatre performance designed to teach children about waste, recycling and environmental responsibility in a fun and memorable way.

We have been delivering Binworld to local schools since 2009, helping thousands of children learn more about how their everyday actions can make a positive difference to the environment.

Binworld will be returning in October 2026, with performances planned for local schools across the district. Further information about this year's programme will be available shortly.

You can find out more about the programme by watching our promotional video.

Food Waste Wagon Naming Competition

Earlier this year, local schoolchildren were invited to take part in our Food Waste Wagon Naming Competition, helping us name our new food waste collection vehicles.

The competition has now closed, and we would like to thank everyone who took part. We received lots of fantastic entries, and the winners will be announced shortly.

Disposable Vape Recycling Campaign

We are currently developing a new campaign to raise awareness of the environmental and safety issues associated with the incorrect disposal of disposable vapes.

Many disposable vapes contain batteries and electrical components that should never be placed in household waste or recycling bins. The campaign will provide guidance on the correct disposal and recycling options available to residents.

Further information will be shared soon.

More campaigns coming soon

We are always looking for new ways to engage with residents, schools and community groups to promote waste reduction, recycling and environmental awareness.

Additional campaigns, projects and educational opportunities will be added to this page as they are launched, so please check back regularly for the latest updates.
