Housing Allocations

Council houses

The Council is responsible for providing information and support for local residents on the process of applying for Council and other social housing accommodation.

This includes processing applications, assessing re-housing priority, administration of the housing register, information on allocation priorities, advice and support, making offers of accommodation and creating new tenancies.

The Housing Allocations team is part of the Tenancy Services Section of the Council's Housing Department. It is responsible for:

  • Processing housing and transfer applications
  • Assessing Housing priority
  • Administration of the Housing Register
  • Providing information and support to housing applicants
  • Promoting Mutual Exchanges and processing mutual exchange applications
  • Advertising and allocating vacant Council properties
  • Nominating applicants to other social housing landlords
  • Undertaking property viewings
  • Creating new tenancies with successful applicants

Applications are assessed and properties allocated in line with the Council's approved Allocations Policy. You can also find out more about how the allocations process works on our dedicated website pages, which we recommend you read before applying for housing, as this will help answer any questions you may have. You may then wish to visit our webpage on how to apply for council housing
