Cannock Chase Council Announces 29 New Affordable Homes at Farriers Fold, Rugeley

Cannock Chase Council is pleased to announce the delivery of 29 new affordable homes for rent at Farriers Fold in Rugeley, as part of the new Aelfgar development being constructed by Lovell. The new homes form an important addition to local housing stock and support the Council’s commitment to providing high quality, energy efficient homes for residents.

Located within walking distance of Rugeley Town Centre, shops, leisure facilities and excellent transport links, the development offers modern, sustainable living in a well-connected community.

New Homes Delivered

The Council will receive 29 new rental properties made up of:

2 Bedroom Houses

The properties are due for handover in various phases of a few properties at a time, over the five months from April to August 2026.

Council properties are integrated with the private homes which are being sold by Lovell. They include solar panels and air source heat pumps, meeting new development standards of thermal efficiency which make them less expensive for tenants to run than older housing. Garden spaces are bordered by ‘hedgehog’ fencing, providing for local wildlife.

Achieving a Balanced and Sustainable Community at Farriers Fold

To support a balanced and sustainable community at the new site, we will allocate the properties based on a local lettings policy, specific to this site. This is set out in full below.

The key features of the local lettings policy are:

  • Allocations will be made to a mix of housing applicants, including:
    • existing tenants who need to move urgently (priority transfers)
    • other banded transfer applicants and
    • external housing applicants
  • Some properties will be allocated to applicants in lower priority bands to help support the balanced and sustainable community objective
  • Empty homes which result from tenants transferring to one of the properties will be prioritised principally for homeless applicants and others in urgent need.
Bidding for Properties

Properties will be advertised through the Council’s  ‘Housing Online’ service,  which advertises empty properties that are available each week, from 22 April 2026.  Adverts will appear over the 5-month period, co-ordinated with the expected handover date for properties which are nearing completion.

You can find the housing online service on the Council’s website at https://kiosk.cannockchasehousing.co.uk/cannock/housing/findanewhome/.

Housing Applicants can bid for any suitable property we advertise, subject to any restrictions which the advert specifies – for example, some adverts may be restricted to certain priority bands.

We will then shortlist applicants from the eligible bids received and we will contact the successful applicant to arrange viewing of the property they have bid for.   A formal offer of a new tenancy may be subject to final checks, including a pre-tenancy interview, where required.

Unfortunately, we are only able to contact applicants whose bid is successful. Applicants who do not hear from us within three working days of the advert closing are encouraged to continue bidding for other suitable properties we advertise, both at this development and any other vacant properties.
