“Where did I finish on the shortlist?”
This guide explains how property shortlists are created and why there is no single straightforward answer.
We do not provide information about an applicant’s finishing position on a shortlist. We operate a choice-based lettings system, so an applicant’s position varies from one property to another.
The shortlist depends on the number of applicants, each applicant’s band and the date they were placed in that band. The system groups applicants first by band and then by banding date. For example, applicants in Band 1 are ordered by date before applicants in Band 2, followed by Bands 3 and 4.
The shortlist includes everyone who has expressed an interest in the property, from Band 1 to Band 4.
For example, you can apply for five properties on the same day, you may be number 2 on one shortlist, number 10 on another and number 25 on another. Your position is determined separately for each property.
A short list is not a fixed queue. If you are 10th on the shortlist, you do not automatically become 9th, just because the person above you on that particular shortlist receives an offer.
Your position is determined by the system for the particular property you have expressed interest on, each time you make an expression of interest.
